Welcome

A thousand years above the Loue

Standing above the River Loue since the 10th century, Château de Roche at Arc-et-Senans was first recorded in the Chronicles of Saint-Bénigne as a fortress guarding an ancient road to Rome.

Today, listed as a Monument Historique, the château is flanked by two towers crowned with the distinctive clochers comtois of Franche-Comté. Beneath them, ancient vaulted cellars descend to the river below.

Above the Loue

The river, the vineyard and the gardens have shaped life here for centuries.

The estate

One place, many lives

The château remains at the heart of a working estate, where history, winemaking, hospitality and culture are part of everyday life.

The Vineyard

The return of the vine

At the foot of the château, where the Loue winds through limestone and forest, vines have returned to the estate. Their return marks a new chapter in the life of Château de Roche.

A hectare and a half of vines across five plots between the Loue valley and the Jura hillsides. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinotage and traditional Jura varieties, grown as a field blend in the belief that what grows together belongs together.

Tétramorphe

Where reality has more than one face

A cultural programme rooted in the tradition of the Greek symposium: residential gatherings where ideas, gastronomy, wine and art meet. Each season, artists take over the château and its cellars, open free to visitors on exhibition weekends.
