Château de Roche

Standing on the Loue since the 10th century. A thousand years of heritage, a vineyard reborn, and a house made for gathering.

Welcome

A castle in deep rural France

Standing on the Loue since the 10th century, the Château de Roche at Arc-et-Senans was first recorded in the Chronicles of Saint-Bénigne as a fortress on an ancient road to Rome.

Listed as a Monument Historique, the château is flanked by two towers topped with the distinctive clochers comtois of Franche-Comté, with ancient vaulted cellars reaching down to the river below. Fully restored, it brings together nearly a thousand years of history and the comfort of a contemporary home.

The estate

One place, many lives

A private house, a young vineyard on old terroir, a cultural programme, and a table worth travelling for, all within the same walls above the river.

The vineyard

A young estate with deep roots

At the foot of the château's ancient walls, where the Loue bends through limestone and forest, vines have returned to the land. The Domaine Viticole du Château de Roche is a winemaking project born from the conviction that this terroir, shaped by centuries of human presence, deserves a voice of its own.

Pinot Noir planted below the enclosure in the area known as le Puits, hand-harvested, raised in French oak.

Tétramorphe

Where reality has more than one face

A cultural programme rooted in the tradition of the Greek symposium: residential gatherings where ideas, gastronomy, wine and art meet. Each season, artists take over the château and its cellars, open free to visitors on exhibition weekends.
